Martin of Khymos.org asked me to host the tenth round of They Go Really Well Together (TGRWT), an honor unprecedented in the annals of EatFoo, potentially exceeding even BoingBoing's coverage of our miracle fruit events. TGRWT is a monthlyish event that brings together foodies (I'm reclaiming the word) to test out a theory:

[I]f the major volatile molecules of [two] foods are the same, they might taste (and smell) nice when eaten together.

Yes, it's a noncommital way to state a theory, but then we food lovers are a fickle bunch. One month we anoint basil as the fashionable ingredient of the moment, the next butternut squash, the next beets. And this month shall be no different, except that it shall have two such anointed ingredients:

Pineapple, that noble fruit of the tropics, and Blue Cheese, that noble fruit of the cave.

The last two pairings were white chocolate and caviar and then parmesan and cocoa. Your challenge for this month, dear reader (or--do I dare?--dear foodie) is to combine pineapple and blue cheese. Here's how to participate:

  1. Prepare a dish that combines blue cheese and pineapple [and any other ingredients or elements of your choosing]. You can either use an existing recipe (if there is any) or come up with your own.

  2. Take a picture of the dish and write an entry in your blog by April 1st with TGRWT #10 in the title. Readers will be [particularly] interested in how the flavour pairing worked out, so make an attempt at describing the taste and aroma and whether you liked it or not.

  3. A round-up will be posted here (with pictures). Please send an email to david AT  barzelay D.O.T. net with the following details: Your name, URL of blog, URL of the TGRWT #10 post and a picture for your entry in the round-up. If you don't have a blog, email me your name, location, recipe and a brief description of how it worked out and I'll be glad to include it in the final round-up.

I can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the pairing, and what the more creative types come up with!
